My favorite podcasts

I started to listen to podcasts a lot more recently. Mostly while taking a walk during my lunch break or while working out in the gym. Podcast have not supplanted blogs as my main source of information, but have taken a prominent role and become a welcome addition.  I would even go as far as saying that they are up there on eye level. And since this March has #trypod trending, I thought I might share my favorite ones.

This list contains podcasts focusing on testing and agile development and you will find a German one among those as well since that is what I am listening to. And as a professor of mine once stated, these two languages are more like dialects of a pan European language anyway, aren’t they?

1AB testing

http://www.angryweasel.com/ABTesting/

Episodes: 55, duration: around 45 minutes

This one has two co-hosts in Alan and Brent talking about testing and software development. Well, it starts there and goes into different directions from there on, which is something I really enjoy and it’s the one podcast that probably gets me thinking most, even if I don’t like tequila and their pronunciation of German numbers is, well, up to improvement.

Testing in the pub

http://testinginthepub.co.uk/testinginthepub/

Episodes: 41, duration: around 30-45 minutes

Another one with two co-hosts, Stephen and Dan this time. It’s about testing and is recorded in pubs, which is not that surprising considering the name. Most shows are recorded at events or conferences and feature a guest. And a pint of your preferred beer. Topics vary, but deal with current discussions in the tester universe.

3Let’s talk about tests, baby!

http://letstalkabouttests.xyz/

Episodes: 74, duration: around 30-45 minutes

There is a thing with co-hosts, since this one has gone from single host Gem to regular co-host Matthew. Episodes are centered on one main theme and are more focused on that than the other ones probably. The choice of topics is great, but it took me a while to realize that they were talking about bugs and not about books.

4

Mein Scrum ist kaputt

http://www.meinscrumistkaputt.de/

Episodes: 26, duration: around 45-60 minutes

This is the German one, but it doesn’t stop the show from having co-hosts, Sebastian and Dominik. The topic is literally translated as “my scrum is broken” and that’s the central theme: what can go wrong when using Scrum and what can you do to fix it. There are guests on the show regularly and topics vary a bit, ranging from dealing with bugs to scrum master education. If you understand German, give it a try!

5

Scrum Master Toolbox

http://scrum-master-toolbox.org/

Episodes: 203, duration: around 10-15 minutes.

It’s a close call between this one and TestTalks, but I will go for this one. Talking about one: only one host in Vasco. While there is a big difference between the different episodes and I skip some pretty soon there have been a few exceptional ones, so it went in here. Topics vary around scrum in general and it’s not that in-depth as it is considerably shorter, but it hints you at the right directions to dig deeper. This is more the “quick listen in between”-type, which certainly has its merits.
